The Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute (GEHLI) at Virginia Commonwealth University has introduced a new way for participants to highlight their professional growth and leadership achievements — through digital badging.

In partnership with Credly, a global leader in digital credentialing, GEHLI now awards verified, shareable digital badges to participants who complete select training and leadership programs. These badges provide a modern, portable way for professionals to communicate the skills, competencies, and knowledge they’ve developed through GEHLI’s programs.

GEHLI’s mission has always centered on empowering leaders to make a meaningful impact across the Commonwealth and beyond. By introducing digital badging, GEHLI is helping alumni showcase that impact more effectively in today’s connected, digital environment.

What Is a Digital Badge?

A digital badge is an online credential that verifies learning achievements through embedded metadata — confirming what was learned, how it was earned, and who issued it. Participants can share their badges on professional platforms like LinkedIn, include them in résumés and email signatures, or display them on personal websites and portfolios.

Each badge links directly to Credly’s verification platform, allowing employers, colleagues, and peers to see the verified details of the credential and understand the rigor behind it.

Recognizing Leadership Excellence

GEHLI offers digital badges for several of its signature leadership programs, including:

Each badge signifies completion of a rigorous leadership development experience and the demonstration of critical competencies such as strategic thinking, communication, innovation, and collaboration.

Showcasing Achievements Beyond the Classroom

The move toward digital badging aligns with GEHLI’s ongoing commitment to recognizing lifelong learning and professional development. GEHLI participants invest deeply in their growth as leaders. Digital badges allow them to share that achievement in a credible, visible way. It’s a symbol of both the participants' hard work and their readiness to lead. Digital badges also benefit employers, providing a transparent way to validate employee training and skill development.

How It Works

After completing a qualifying GEHLI program, participants receive an email from Credly with instructions to claim their badge. Once accepted, badges can be shared across social media platforms and professional networks.
