The Commonwealth Management Institute (CMI) is a valued avenue for professional development for managers in Virginia state government. Since its inception, more than 3,200 managers have been selected to attend CMI to increase their ability to effectively lead and manage others.
Institute Objectives
CMI is a five-day program that promotes the exchange of information, the development of creative ideas, and cooperation and future collaboration among program participants.
CMI is about affecting positive change - in self, in others, and in the agency. With this in mind, the discussions, activities, and interactions at CMI are designed to enhance:
- Self-awareness concerning effectiveness as a manager and leader.
- How to navigate difficult conversations, conflict, and personnel matters in the workplace.
- Effectiveness as a strategic leader, innovator, and facilitator of change.
- Ability to recognize and use strengths to reach career and public service goals.
This program provides an excellent opportunity for professional development and networking while providing CEU's and SHRM PDC's.
Who Should Participate?
CMI is for managers in state, federal, and local government who are interested in affecting positive change - in self, in others, and in agencies.
