Penny Blue, Minority Political Leadership Institute 2010 alumnus, elected to the Franklin County School Board

Penny Blue, MPLI Class of 2010, was recently elected to the Franklin County School Board. She led a successful campaign in a five-way race for the at-large seat on the Board. The Board consists of eight members, each of whom are elected to a four year term. Penny is a retired IBM executive and has spent the past five years tutoring and teaching math at local public schools and Virginia Western Community College. She provides a unique perspective having both corporate and classroom experience.

Penny has long been dedicated to serving Franklin, Henry, and Pittsylvanyia counties and providing local leadership. She served as the Grass Roots Regional Coordinator for President Obama’s campaigns. Penny’s passion and dedication to quality rural education will make her an asset to the Franklin County School Board. She is dedicated to community outreach and transparency of the school board and will bring first-hand classroom experience and knowledge to the board.
